65,000 H1-B visa cap has been reached

The US federal agency US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which screens and allocates H1-B visas, has declared that congressionally mandatory of 65,000 cap has been met for financial year-2021.

The USCIS is following a new registration process for H1-B visas to streamline the applications. All the companies were asked to register with USCIS by March 20.

While 65,000 H1B visas fall under annual regular quota, 20,000 visas will be reserved for those earned masters and higher degrees from US institutions. The e-registrations, received by USCIS, went through lottery system and only those who become eligible will be able to apply. The application filing is scheduled to begin from 1st April.

"We intend to notify petitioners with selected registrations no later than March 31, 2020, that they are eligible to file an H1B cap-subject petition for the beneficiary named in the applicable selected registration," - said a USCIS statement.
