CM Vs EC : SEC Meets Governor

The politics in Andhra Pradesh have heated up over the postponement of local body election. Following CM Jagan's severe comments on Election Commission and its decision to postpone the election by 6 weeks and Jagan's letter to Governor, State Election Commissioner Ramesh Kumar has met Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan today and discussed at length on issue over 45 minutes. He also defended his decision to suspend and transfer officials owing to the upcoming local body election. This hasn't gone down well with CM Jagan.

While the state government is strongly opposing the postponement of election at this juncture and even the Chief Secretary has written to Governor stating that the state is all set to go for election and announced that one need not "worry" about Corona pandemic, SEC has defended his decision to postpone the election and conveyed his reasons for postponing the election to the Governor.

Meanwhile, AP state government has announced that it would knock the doors of Supreme Court over SEC's decision. CM Jagan stated that it has become "fashion" for everyone to use the word "discretionary powers" referring to SEC as well as Council Chairman who had stalled the bill of dissolution of APCRDA Act, 2014 and AP Decentralization and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020. Looks like, AP state government is not going to leave the issue and has decided to complain to the Election Commission of India over the alleged 'biased' nature of the State Election Commissioner. Let's wait and watch, what is in store for AP.
