Owaisi Tears Citizenship Bill in Lok Sabha

AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has teared the copy of the Citizenship Bill on Monday during a heated debate on the crucial bill in the Lok Sabha. While tearing the copy of the Citizenship Bill, Owaisi said, "Ye aur ek partition hone ja raha hai...This bill is against the Constitution of India and disrespect to our freedom fighters. I tear the bill, it is trying to divide our country."

Asaduddin Owaisi has recalled Mahatma Gandhi and said he was called 'Mahatma' after he had tore the discriminatory citizenship card in South Africa. Stating the above, Owaisi tore the copy of the Citizenship Bill.

Owaisi has breathed fire on the Union Government lead by PM Narendra Modi. He alleged that the Citizenship Bill is aimed at making Muslims "stateless". He cautioned that the Bill would lead to another partition.

Meanwhile, Owaisi's act of tearing the Bill copy has got severe criticism from several corners. The treasury benches have described Owaisi's act as an "insult" to the Parliament.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor too opposed the Citizenship Bill. He said, "India has already a partition of land. This Bill will partition the soul of India." He said that the Indian Constitution has rejected the two-nation theory. He said the passage of the Citizenship Bill would be a victory of "Jinnah's thinking over Gandhi's idea".
