Overnight twist: BJP's Fadnavis takes oath as CM of Maharastra

Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the chief minister of Maharashtra on Saturday morning on a shocking overnight political strike. Until yesterday, it was nearly confirmed that Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray will swear in as the next CM of the state. But the big twist today morning left Shiv Sena, Congress and Maharashtrians in sheer shock.

On the other hand, Ajit Pawar took oath as deputy chief minister, who is a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), one of the three parties working to create an alternative alliance. Soon after these two were sworn in, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Fadnavis and Pawar.

Until yesterday, the unanimous decision of making Uddhav Thackeray as CM by Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena were on point. But hours after the trio's new coalition in making a new government comes the BJP's desperate last-minute attempt to win over Shiv Sena. Everyone who was expected to wake up to the news of Thackeray's CM oath has ended in a surprise twist indeed.

Right after swearing-in, Fadnavis said "People had given us a clear mandate, but Shiv Sena tried to ally with other parties after results, as a result, President's rule was imposed. Maharashtra needed a stable govt, not a 'khichdi' govt".
