30 Senior Congress leaders out?

If the latest political reports are to be believed, close to 30 senior Congress members are likely to lose a chance to contest in 2019 polls. The list includes many former minister, MPs and senior leaders in the party and quickly after Rahul taking over AICC president, the party will undergo an overhaul in state leadership since the coming polls are not just prestigious to Congress, but also for the new chief Rahul Gandhi.

Since the coming general election will test the political career of Rahul Gandhi, he doesn't want to give out any chance to veteran leaders and wanted to rely on young leaders extensively. So, screening of MLA and MP candidates is not going to be easy, for Congress, this time. The high command is considering the history, winning capability and working ability of each candidate.

In Congress party, the candidates are always chosen by high command (Delhi) and state PCC team can only recommend or suggest names. But, keeping the new way of screening in view, T-PCC also need to send a calculated report to high command.

Not just the seniority, the candidates in party should possess some additional qualifications to win the party ticket. All the candidates who lost for three consecutive times or those who lost 2014 polls with more than 30,000 votes may not receive party’s call in the coming 2019 election - said a senior leader of Telangana who doesn’t want his name to be mentioned. So, the party high command may soon send out a prerequisite list for state Pradesh Congress Committee to select the candidates for upcoming general polls.
