Sehwag defied BCCI, faces axe

Why Virender Sehwag was axed? Why he was not included in India's 15-member squard for Asia Cup? Is it his bad form that costed his place in the team? If so, why Sachin who is struggling with bad form wasn't dropped? What prompted the selectors to take such a harsh step? These were the questions raised by the admirers of this dashing opener all over the world.

The Selection Committee have declared that Sehwag was not dropped, but rested on medical grounds after taking into account the fitness report given by the team's physio. But, the actual reasons for dropping Sehwag were different. After the news of alleged spat between Sehwag and Dhoni over the controversial 'Rotation Policy' broke out, the BCCI
swung into action to resolve the issue. The BCCI instructed both the players to give a joint statement before the press in Australia to put an end to the rumors, for which Dhoni agreed but Sehwag refused to do so. Sehwag's behaviour has angered the BCCI heads, which eventually led to dropping him.

Dhoni-Sehwag 'Rotation Policy' spat: Dhoni - "Taking all the three of them (Sachin, Sehwag and Gambhi) into the Playing X1 would affect our fielding in a big way. They are on the slower side". Sehwag shot back - "Dhoni has never told us that our slow fielding was the reason to go for Rotation Policy. We have been fielding the same way for the last 10 years".

Indian squad for Asia Cup:  Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Virat Kohli (vice-captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Vinay Kumar, Rahul Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Manoj Tiwary, Irfan Pathan, Ashok Dinda.
