Girl Is Housemaid, Still Scored 85% in Class 12

Setting an inspiring precedent to youngsters, 17-year-old teen girl, who worked as a domestic help in over five houses, managed to secure 85% marks in her class 12 exam and proved that determination, commitment are enough to reach heights in life. A Shalini from Begaluru, topper of Class 12 exams, juggled studies with cleaning bathrooms, scrubbing utensils, cooking and nursing. This is not all. Shalini has younger brother who has been ailing from blood cancer and she used to nurse him after finishing her work at five houses where she work as domestic help.

Going into details of Shalini's tragic story, her father had been bedridden for over decade after falling off a building. He recently started walking but confined to house. With her mother taking up work as housemaid, Shalini used to do everything in her house including cleaning, cooking. In between, just ahead of her II PU exams, she received shocker of her life as major tragedy struck - her younger brother was diagnosed with third stage blood cancer. Shalini spent hours of time in hospital taking care of her brother. With Shalini's mother decided to take care of her son, Shalini had to take up her mother's job as housemaid.

Despite all these obstacles, Shalini got 84.8 per cent in the science stream in the second PU exam. The teenager credits her college officials for encouraging her to study.
