Multiplexes To Remain Shut Till June 30?

While the suspense over the lock down extension continues to haunt various businesses and the people associated with it, the movie business is one among them which is drastically affected. It is reported that the cinemas across the nation - especially multiplexes - would remain shut till June 30 even if the lock down is lifted.

Multiplex theater chains such as PVR, INOX, Carnival Cinemas, Cinepolis and others said to have voluntarily decided not to open till May 31st if the lock down is lifted after April 14. But considering the prevailing conditions and the possible extension of lock down, the government may ask the theatres to remain shut till June 30.

Since multiplexes these days contributing a lot of revenue to distributors, producers and giving breather to medium budget film makers, the shutting of these theater chain till June end could cost huge and could cast a shadow on the movie business across the country.

Tollywood would also pay its hefty price. Already, a lot of films are lying in the cans waiting for the theatres to open while others are stuck due to the stalling of shootings, post-production works.

With interests for investment piling up, the production costs are soaring up and this could result in stalling of some small and medium budget films that were started on tight budget.

On the other hand, single-screen theatres may also face the heat with the government's decision. Even if the lock down is lifted after a while, it is learnt that it would only happen in a phase-wise manner allowing essential services and crucial businesses to start.

But cinemas would be shut till June 30 in order to avoid crowd gathering which could be potential risk for the spread of novel Corona Virus. So, the movie business is going to be largely affected for the next two months, predict analysts.

So, the novel Corona Virus outbreak has wreaked a havoc for the movie business to the core like any other business. It is predicted that audience may not rush to theatres even once they are open. So, the fear of Covid-19 may last for a while and it's going to cost the movie business for next 3 to 4 months. Let's hope the world comes out of this trauma at the earliest and businesses thrive.
