She has enthralled us with her glamour. Then she has shown us her acting prowess. Then she took Indian fame to the international diaspora. But, she could also dare to do the unthinkable. Here comes Deepika Padukone Chhapaak, the tale of an acid-attack survivor, which is beyond words.
Chhapaak deals with the story of Malti (Deepika Padukone) who was attacked on a street in New Delhi, in 2005. Director Meghna Gulzar of Raazi and Talwar fame has shown us that the realistic consequences of surviving an acid attack in India and how the judiciary tackles it before taking years to deliver the verdict.
Deepika Padukone as an acid attack victim has stunned with her makeover and it is no exaggeration to say that she brings tears in her eyes in the shot where a kid gets scared of her look. The trailer is just as gripping as Deepika's performance and surely she's going to sweep National Awards this time, say cinema pundits. "Rarely do you come across a story where you do not need an entire narration to decide if you want to be a part of a film or not. What is even more rare is to not be able to articulate and put into words what you feel for the film and it’s journey" Deepika says, talking about the film.
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is set to hit cinemas on Jan 10, 2020.
