Adivi Sesh Honours Major Sandeep & 26/11 War Heroes

Adivi Sesh's next film Major is based on 26/11 attacks hero Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. The Hindi-Telugu bilingual film will be bankrolled by Mahesh Babu's home banner GMB Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures & A+S Movies.

Major is inspired by the life of the NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who saved several hostages during the 26/11 attack at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai and ended up sacrificing his life for the nation. He was awarded the Ashoka Chakra posthumously, India's highest military honor in peacetime.

Playing Sandeep Unnikrishnan in Major is Adivi Sesh who turned emotional on the anniversary day of the incident took place. He released a letter briefing the greatness of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who sacrificed his life for the nation.

What does it mean to be a patriot?

That is the question that kept coming to haunt me, the more I researched the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. He was the opposite of what one may expect of such a decorated war hero.

Where one expects seriousness, he was full of life and laughter. Where one expects patriotic speeches, he used to simply get things done with a smile.

As I embark on this journey of playing the man himself in our film, MAJOR, I can safely say this his parents are now like my parents. I try, not without failure, to make his heart, my own. To smile like him. To walk like him. I know I can never be him. If only, I could capture the essence...

As I've gotten to know and learn about him through his parents and friends, I can only hope I do justice to his incredible story. Researching this extraordinary man's life has made me question my own way of living, my own perception of existence. It has made me ask myself what I can do …to be a better Indian everyday, to be a better human being everyday.

The 26/11 attacks may have claimed him, but his life has taught me more. I hope that shines through in our film.

In the spirit of Unnikrishnan Uncle's speech at the 10 year anniversary of the attacks, we take this moment to honour not just Sandeep sir, but all the heroes who laid their lives down to protect us on those fateful three days in November 2008.

We bow our heads in silence, in memory, of them and of the victims.

We remember.
