'Half Girlfriend', a highly anticipated romantic entertainer that hit screens this Friday, is reportedly heading towards being labeled a major box office disappointment.
The film had almost everything in its favor until its release. A charismatic couple - Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, a catchy title, 'Aashiqui 2' fame Mohit Suri in directorial chair, super hit album and prolific promotions by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Entertainments. Moreover, the film is the cinematic adaption of eminent writer Chetan Bhagat's best selling novel of the same name.
Despite all the positive factors, Half Girlfriend couldn't meet the expectations of audiences owing to lack of novelty in screenplay and boring execution. The film has received scathing reviews and word of mouth too wasn't encouraging. Half Girlfriend has collected a decent Rs 32 crore over the first weekend but the collections fell drastically on Monday, say trade reports.
Given the good hype, buyers doled out exorbitant prices for theatrical rights and all of them are now staring at significant losses. Another factor for the poor show of Half Girlfriend is the strong performance of Baahubali 2 (Hindi) which is still No.1 at Bollywood box office even in its fourth week.
